Getting a flat tire isn’t just inconvenient, it’s highly dangerous. In this blog post, the towing experts here at Towing Chicago will detail the best ways to prevent getting a flat tire this Summer.
Check your Tire Pressure
Use a tire pressure gauge to check the pressure of each of your tires. This is best performed when you haven’t driven for a few hours. You should also check the pressure in the spare tire in case you need to use it.
Tire Rotation
Check your car’s owner manual to figure out how often you need to rotate your tires. This may also depend on what type of tires are in your vehicle. Most tire shops give you free tire rotations when you buy tires from them. The usual recommendation for tire rotation is between 5000 and 10,000 miles before each rotation.
Keep Away from Hazards
Make sure to ALWAYS avoid construction sites – as they often result in screws and other sharp metal or wood debris on the roads nearby that can quickly puncture your tires. Also avoid roads that have little maintenance performed – sharp rocks, sudden potholes, and weird obstructions can quickly cause a flat tire!!
Don’t Overload
Check out your tire weight limit on the label of your tires when you purchase them. NEVER exceed these weight limits by loading your vehicle with too much equipment that overtake the pressure requirements of your tire. If you know in advance that you need to transport a heavy load, you may decide to inflate your tires slightly more to provide a counter balance to the extra weight of the items you will be carrying.
