Here’s what to do if you’re waiting for towing in the snow.
Stay Visible
Once you’ve contacted your licensed towing operation, make sure that you can be seen from the road. Turn on your hazard lights, set up safety cones, and place down road flares. You might want to put a traffic cone on the roof of your car to call further attention to yourself, as the snow can blur people’s field of vision.
Don’t Dig
It can be dangerous to attempt to dig your car out of the snow by yourself. It can be exhausting, and slipping is a major risk. Just ensure that your car’s windows aren’t covered in snow.
Don’t leave the car on
Of course you’re going to want to stay warm while you wait for the towing operation to arrive – but you don’t need to keep your car running the entire time, depleting your gas tank. Make sure that your tailpipe isn’t blocked by the snow, which can potentially build up carbon monoxide – make sure the tailpipe is clear of snow, turn on the heat till your car is warm, then turn off your car until it’s cold again, and repeat.
