Summer Driving Safety

There’s a series of vital actions to take in warm Summer months to ensure that your vehicle is safely driving; here’s a few of them, as prepared by the towing experts here at Towing Chicago.

Gauge Checking

Broken or malfunctioning gauges can fail to notify drivers of serious issues before it’s too late. Imagine if your oil pressure gauge didn’t tell you your oil is about to run out – which could in turn cause severe engine damage! Make sure that your gauges are all properly working – you can ask a trusty mechanic to do this – it’s a simple and quick operation.

A/C

Broken AC systems should be repaired at the start of the Summer, and definitely before any long trips. Broken air conditioners can be signs of car leaks or problems with your car’s compressor. It’s best to get a professional to check out your air conditioner to determine what’s going on.

Engine Heat

Make sure that your car’s engine is also cool. Overheating engines can cause vehicles to stop working in a sudden and dangerous fashion. Check that you have enough engine coolant in the tank. If your engine is still too hot, get your radiator professionally flushed – or consider replacing your car’s battery. If these problems still happen, consider checking your car’s transmission. In the meantime, try parking in the shade, and leave windows open a crack.

Tires

Make sure that your tires are not underinflated or over inflated. Overinflated ties are a unique issue, as during hot weather, air in tires normally expands – so if they are overinflated, your tires can potentially suddenly blow out – which is incredibly dangerous. Make sure to check your tire’s air pressure with every 5,000 miles of distance – and before any long drives on a hot day.
